Weekly Photo Challenge: Home
I don’t live here, but home is about more than where we reside. I’ve been visiting the Nature Center since I was a small child, and for me it’s as welcoming, comfortable, and restful as any place I know.
If, in the next life, I have the opportunity to choose where I can spend the time… I won’t hesitate to choose this place. Choosing who could join me and the animals there? Well, that would make it a true heavenly home.
The chipmunk? She does live here.

Yes indeed, Sumithra!

Having grown up as a military brat, I did a lot of traveling and it almost feels that I do not have a “home.” With that said, I have lived in various places in Virginia for the largest portion of my life so I do call it home. The beautiful 16 acres of woods and fields where I live now and have lived since 1990 is my favorite of all as I love the peace and tranquility of this rural area and it is the place I have lived the longest – WOW – going on 23 years! That is over a fourth of my life.

Sixteen acres of woods and fields sounds very homey to me, Louis. Definitely.

I too love being out in nature. And yes indeed the chipmonk does live there. Nice home too.

The chipmunks, the snakes, the birds, the deer, the fish, the dragonflies, the muskrats… a very nice home with wonderful neighbors!

I’ll pass that message on to them, Amanda…

What a sweet little chipmunk! They are such a delight to watch. I can spend hours here watching the squirrels. And of course you know you’ll find me in nature… even in the next life!

Not surprised there, Lori! I’m with you about the squirrels, even if their antics here usually involve the bird feeders…

I LOVE chipmunks..and squirrels. So cute.

I used to feed baby squirrels at a rehabilitator’s – you want to talk about cute, they were cute overload.

I heart chipmunks. They’re so adorable and tiny. I love when they come sit on my hand to eat
February 12, 2013 at 12:43 am
That takes a special kind of person for them to eat on your hand, I say. Think they could see/feel that trait in you, somehow? Wouldn’t surprise me.

I think so. I mean, they can smell or sense threat, right? So I think they can also sense lack of threat or friendliness. I don’t know. I seem to do well with animals. They seem to trust me. I’ve even had a groundhog eating from my hand

I’d love to play with that chipmunk! It would be so much fun
February 12, 2013 at 12:58 am
Oh, I just bet you would, Satchie! You and me both.

I had forgotten all about my chipmunk story. We HAD a colony of those playful little critters at my mountain cabin years ago before we started taking Mike the cat up there. Mike liked them too – unfortunately so much that we no longer have any. So, learn something from this folks – DO NOT take your cat to where your chipmunks are or they won’t be there very long.

Instinct is hard to overcome. At least Mike was happy about the arrangement, eh?
